Foundational Stage

Foundational Stage (5 Years: Ages 3 to 8) This stage integrates three years of early childhood care (Anganwadi/Preschool) with Grades 1 and 2. It acknowledges that 85% of a child’s brain development happens before age 8.
Aims & Curricular Goals: The core goal is achieving universal Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). The framework seeks to ensure physical wellness, clear communication habits, and a love for exploring the local environment.
Competencies & Learning Outcomes: Students transition from basic word recognition to reading simple, unfamiliar texts. They learn to perform simple mathematical operations like addition and subtraction up to 2 digits. Socially, they master sharing, self-regulation, and identifying local plants and animals.
Pedagogical Approaches: Instruction relies on a purely play-based and activity-based curriculum. Teachers use storytelling, toy-based learning, puzzles, and art integration. Formal textbooks are minimized, and instruction happens in bilingual. Assessment is done through qualitative observations of skills developed through Pedagogical approaches.
